House Concurrent Resolution 135

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. SIEGFRIED STEINBERGER FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

WHEREAS, Mr. Siegfried Steinberger has devoted many years of community service to Simpson County, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger moved to Mississippi in 1963 to establish the Universal Manufacturing Company, which became the largest employer in Simpson County and the second largest employer in the state, employing over 2,600 Mississippians at its peak; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger also started a wire mill in Gallman, Mississippi, and oversaw the acquisition and management of a steel-slitting facility in Vicksburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Mr. Steinberger has held various leadership roles in many community organizations, including the Director of the State of Mississippi Economic Counsel, the Chamber of Commerce Director for Mendenhall and Magee, a Volunteer Manager of the Mendenhall Chamber of Commerce, a former President of the Mendenhall School Board and a former President of the Lion's Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger also is a member of the Simpson County Economic Foundation, the Red Cross, the Simpson County Hospital Auxiliary, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter and the Mendenhall Masonic Lodge; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his involvement in community organizations, Mr. Steinberger has been an active member of St. Columbs Episcopal Church since 1963, where he has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vestryman, Junior Warden, Senior Warden and currently serves as a licensed Lay Reader and a Eucharistic Minister; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger has received the "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" award for his contributions to Simpson County from the Mendenhall Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger also served this country during World War II as a Sergeant within an Infantry Combat Division and received the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Steinberger has been supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, June; and three sons, Karl, Bruce and Mark; and five grandchildren, Suzanne, Sarah, Paul, Luke and Kevin; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Siegfried Steinberger, who has dedicated over 36 years of service to the citizens of Simpson County, Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. Siegfried Steinberger for his many years of community service and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Siegfried Steinberger and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
